What Is A Planetary Gearbox?

A planetary gearbox, also known as a planetary reduction box or gearbox, is a precision mechanical transmission device.

1. Basic structure

The basic structure of a planetary gearbox consists of multiple planetary gears rotating around a sun gear. Among them, planetary gears can usually be divided into simple planetary gears and complex planetary gears:

Simple planetary gear: consists of a sun gear, an external ring gear, a planet gear and a planet carrier.
Complex planetary gear: usually refers to a gear train that contains both a planetary gear train and a sun gear train, and has the characteristics of a higher reduction ratio and high torque.

2. Working principle

The working principle of the planetary gearbox is to reduce the transmission speed ratio through the rotation of the planetary gears, and at the same time increase the torque of the motor proportionally. In the planetary gearbox, the planetary gear not only rotates around its own axis, but also revolves around the sun gear with the planet carrier, thereby achieving the effects of deceleration and torque increase.

High transmission ratio: The planetary gearbox can achieve a larger transmission ratio, which significantly reduces the output speed and significantly increases the output torque.
Large torque output: Due to the structural characteristics of the planetary gearbox, it can withstand large torque and is suitable for occasions requiring high torque output.
